Ebonyi State NUT Lauds Gov Umahi's Proactive Measures... As WAEC Exams Commence

Ebonyi State, Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT), through it's chairman, Comrade Egwu Francis Elechi has lauded Governor David Umahi for his proactivenes in ensuring that schools are safe for resumption in Ebonyi, 


Comrade Egwu doubles as the Chairman for Safe School Resumption Committee set up by the government stated this during a monitoring exercise in  compliance with Covid-19 protocols  at Ugwuegu Comprehensive secondary School, Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.
Egwu who is also responsible for the distribution of the safety kits provided for students and teachers thanked Gov Umahi for supplying and providing facemasks and other safety materials for 2020 WAEC and NECO candidates in the state


"we keep on thanking the governor of the state, for his proactivenes because, I want to tell you that he is the first to organize training on covid-19 for four thousand teachers involving in this exercise, he also approved the distributions of these personal protective equipments, 

"He equally supplied them at the moment we still have more to accommodate even students coming to write NECO and NABTEB, he has supplied the materials in a large quantity and it is our duty to give it out as required", he said

"we have about two hundred and eighty eight secondary schools in Ebonyi state, and the personal protective equipments provided by the state government were given to each public school in the state as provided by His Excellency the governor of Ebonyi State Engr David Umahi".

He commended the role played by the state government in creating a radio teaching scheme for students in the state geared at maintaining sound learning during the lockdown to prevent the spread of covid-19.

In line with the protocols recommended by  Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) for school resumptions,



"Before now, we have done sensitised all the students, they are aware of the risks of getting infected and  based on that, they have colllected facemasks, adopted regular handwashing as well as using hand sanitizer regularly, 
" To be precise, they have complied hundred impressively" he said.

Concerning  the envisaged examination malpractices due to break in school activities
Mr Egwu said that students in the state had been receiving teachings on radio to keep them sound while waiting for the examinations.

Adding that examinations Malpractice is like stealing, anyone that has the ability to steal will still do so irrespective of the provisions made available for the person.

He advised students writing the West African examinations council (WAEC) to focus on achieving good grades with honor instead of indulging in examinations Malpractice.
